Where your crawl data is stored
Everything Crawlpit Monster records stays on your Mac. There is no account and no cloud, so knowing where the data lives lets you back it up, move it, or remove it whenever you want.
Everything is local
Your projects, crawls, settings, and history are stored on your machine and nowhere else. Nothing about the sites you crawl is uploaded. This is a core part of how the app works, not a setting to turn on. See the Privacy policy for the full picture.
Where the data lives
The data is kept in the app's own data folder in your Mac's user Library, the standard location for application data. It is stored outside the app bundle, which is deliberate: it means updating or reinstalling the app never touches your projects or history. The app can point you to this folder if you want to open it directly.
What is stored there
- Your projects and their settings.
- Every crawl and its full results.
- Your crawl history.
It is all kept locally in a compact, efficient format, so a long history stays small.
Backing up your data
To back up, copy the app's data folder somewhere safe. To move your projects and history to another Mac, copy that folder to the same location on the new machine. That is the whole backup story: it is just files on your disk.
Deleting data
- To remove one project, delete it inside the app, which removes its crawls and history.
- To remove everything, delete the app's data folder.
Deleting is permanent, so back up first if you might want the history later.
Updates never touch your data
Because the data lives outside the app bundle, updating the app, whether by dragging a new version over the old one or through an automatic update, leaves your projects and history untouched. See How to update the app.
What is never uploaded
Nothing about the sites you crawl ever leaves your machine. The only personal data the company holds is your email address, and only if you choose to subscribe to the newsletter on the website. The app does not send your crawl data anywhere.
Frequently asked questions
Where exactly is my data?
In the app's data folder in your Mac's user Library. The app can open that location for you.
Can I back up my crawl history?
Yes. Copy the app's data folder. To move to another Mac, copy it to the same place on that machine.
Does uninstalling the app delete my data?
Dragging the app to the Trash removes the app, not the data folder. Delete the data folder separately if you want the data gone too.
Is any of my crawl data uploaded?
No. It stays entirely on your Mac.
