Reset a project and find log files

Now and then a project misbehaves, or you simply want a clean slate for a site. This page covers resetting or deleting a project safely, and where to find the logs.

When to reset a project

Resetting is worth doing when a project's results look inconsistent, when you want to clear an old history and start measuring fresh, or when you are troubleshooting and want to rule the existing data out. It is a rare need, but a clean option to have.

Reset versus delete

Two different actions, with different results:

  • Reset clears a project's saved crawls and history but keeps the project and its settings, so you can start crawling fresh without setting the site up again.
  • Delete removes the project entirely, along with all of its crawls and history.

Both act only on that one project. Neither touches your other projects or the app's own settings.

How to reset a project

  1. Open the project you want to reset.
  2. Clear its saved crawls and history from the project's settings or history view.
  3. Run a new crawl to start a fresh record.

The project keeps its name, start URL, and crawl settings, so it is ready to crawl again immediately.

How to delete a project

  1. Select the project.
  2. Choose delete.
  3. Confirm.

Deleting is permanent and removes the project's crawls and history from your Mac, so make sure you no longer need it. If you might want the history later, back it up first. See Where your crawl data is stored.

What resetting does and does not remove

  • Removes: that project's saved crawls and history.
  • Keeps: the project itself (on reset), the app's settings, and every other project and its data.

Finding the log files

If you hit a problem worth reporting, the app's log files help diagnose it. The logs live in the app's data area on your Mac, alongside where your crawl data is stored, and the app can point you to that location. You do not need the logs for normal use; they are there for troubleshooting.

Gathering details before contacting support

If you contact us about an issue, a few details make it much faster to help:

  • The app version you are running (from the About view).
  • Your macOS version.
  • What you did and what happened.
  • The relevant log file, if the issue is a crash or a failed crawl.

Frequently asked questions

Does resetting a project delete my other projects?

No. Reset and delete act only on the one project you choose. Everything else is untouched.

Where are the log files?

In the app's data area on your Mac, which the app can open for you. They are only needed for troubleshooting.

Is deleting a project reversible?

No. Deleting permanently removes that project's crawls and history. Back up first if you may want them.

How do I start a site over from scratch?

Reset the project to clear its history while keeping its settings, then run a fresh crawl.
