Updating the app
Keeping Crawlpit Monster current means you get the latest fixes and checks. Updating is simple, and it never touches your saved work.
How updates work
The app lets you know when a new version is available. How you install it depends on where the app is in its release cycle.
Updating during the beta
During the beta, updating is a manual, one-time step you already know from installing:
- Download the latest
.dmgfrom the download page. - Open it and drag the new Crawlpit Monster onto Applications, replacing the old version.
- Open the app as usual.
Your projects and history are stored separately, so replacing the app does not affect them.
Automatic updates
Automatic updates, where the app downloads and installs new versions for you, arrive once the app is notarized by Apple. Until then, the manual .dmg method above is the way to update. When automatic updates are in place, you will be able to turn the update checks off if you prefer to update manually.
Your data is always safe
Updating never touches your saved projects or crawl history, because that data lives outside the app bundle in your user data folder. This is true whether you update by replacing the app or, later, through an automatic update. See Where your crawl data is stored.
Checking your version
You can see which version you are running from the app's About view, which is useful when you want to confirm an update landed or when reporting an issue.
Frequently asked questions
How do I update during the beta?
Download the latest .dmg from the download page and drag it over the old app in Applications. Your data is untouched.
Will updating delete my projects or history?
No. Your data is stored separately from the app and survives every update.
Can I turn off update checks?
Once automatic updates are in place, yes. During the beta, updating is manual, so there is nothing running in the background to turn off.
How do I know a new version is available?
The app notifies you, and new releases are listed on the download page.
